Dear student,

The Trade and Transport Law Association is currently looking for a new board! If you are willing to kick-start your adventure in Rotterdam, keep on reading!

The association is founded upon the idea that a platform was needed where students and companies involved in the trade and transport sector could come together, in close vicinity to the largest port on the Western hemisphere, at the Erasmus University Rotterdam.

In its current mission, the association expands this aim to the broader field of trade and transport law in an international perspective. Over the past year, it has received a great amount of valuable support from students and professionals. The association aims to provide support to the students of the LL.M. Commercial Law masters.

By organizing company visits, career events, making notice of possible internships or starting positions, the association together with our partners will keep a keen eye out for you in the trade and transport sector. Furthermore, TTLA offers a broad variety of social activities for all the students who are far away from their roots and help them to make the world port city their home away from home.

2016 Summer Internship

Nidera, an international producer and trader of agricultural commodities, is headquartered in Rotterdam, the Netherlands. We are privileged to reside in ‘The Rotterdam’, an architectural office designed by Rem Koolhaas. The Nidera Corporate Legal Team is a small but rather efficient international team of lawyers that work closely together, active on a global scale.

During the summer period, for at least 6 weeks during July and August, we can offer you a challenging time as a corporate paralegal while working in an international legal environment within the group’s legal department. You will be supporting the in-house lawyers and you are in contact with both internal and external parties throughout the group. At the end of the summer, you will have a strong sense of the legal awareness that is required within a commodity trading house and in-depth understanding of what it is like to work in our highly charged professional environment.

What experience can we offer you?

Your main responsibilities will consist of verifying compliance for all our legal entities, drafting of minutes and resolutions, director appointments and resignations, proxies,certificates, circulation of materials and reviews of and updates on corporate legal requirements. Furthermore, you would also ensure that our subsidiaries are properly organized, that the legal entity board of directors remains properly constituted, that the legal authorizations to act on behalf of the affiliates have been properly appointed and that our boards act in accordance with legal requirements and consistent with Group Company policies and that the annual obligations of the entities are carried out in a timely fashion.

Finally, you will also be responsible for ensuring that the corporate data of all our affiliates is properly submitted and catalogued in our web-based electronic database. As the role will operate with a certain degree of autonomy and will require skillful management of communication and relationships across our group, we invite individuals with a strong ability to act independently with self-direction.

We are in search of

• You are a University of Professional Education or Law School student in your second/third year;

• You hold a preference in working in an international demanding environment and have a clear interest in Corporate Law;

• You speak Dutch or English, Spanish or Chinese is nice to have;

• You can prove to be able to organize and clearly communicate;

• You have strong skills in Word, Excel and Lotus Notes;

• You hold a ‘can do’ mentality and have a positive attitude;

• You will be able to solve problems and seek for timely assistance when needed;

• You are independent but may easily be part of a team, and

• You can manage pressure and still be enthusiastic.

The Trade & Transport Law Association organizes the “Career day” on Tuesday 10th of May.

The aim of the event is to connect students with practice and give to our members a clear picture about the career prospects after graduation. Our speakers will give a presentation about their daily practice in their field of expertise, the job hunting experience and the career prospects of their job position. All speakers are alumni from Erasmus University Rotterdam.

On the 25th of April the TTLA arranged a workshop on ‘How to present yourself and how to get your message across’. The lecture was held by Eva Novotna, a previous trainer for the United Netherlands Delegation, whose students won several awards both at the Harvard and Oxford Model United Nations.

Present at the workshop was 15 TTLA members who received interactive training and got the possibility to present themselves orally on different topics in front of the rest of the group while being subjected to feedback from both fellow students and the Eva herself. There was a primary focus on how each’s body language came across and whether their oral message correlated with their body movement. Besides, several lessons and tricks were given on how to present oneself at a job interview, and the focus was set on how an open and welcoming posture can ensure that a first impression is positive.

The end of the workshop was dedicated to framing. Framing is how to presents an object or situations from different perspectives to make it in your favour. As many of us will dedicate our lives to being a lawyer we need a more extensive response than ‘it depends on who I am presenting’ to ensure that the clients’ interests are taken care of. As such, Eva gave us another ‘tool in the shed’ to help our future career.

Navingo Maritime & Offshore Career event

The Navigno MOCE considered as the biggest and most complete maritime & offshore career event!

The goal of the Navingo Maritime & Offshore Career Event is to bring exhibitors and internship / job seekers together, which will give them an opportunity to get to know one another and establish working and training relationships. Especially for students of the mast ‘Maritime & Transport Law’ who are looking for a job, MOCE provides a great platform to find out everything about the companies in the maritime and offshore industry. By talking and meeting the exhibitors, you will find out which opportunities are out there. During MOCE, every visitor has the chance to walk by all stands without any strings attached, and to get informed by companies at the exhibition.

The Navingo Maritime and Offshore Career Event (MOCE) will showcase the available work in this progressive sector. More than 125 maritime and offshore energy companies will gather in ‘the maritime heart’ of the Netherlands, to represent the industry and their career opportunities. There will be company presentations, workshops, you can have your CV checked and lots more!
